Recycled Rubber

What is Recycled "Crumb" Rubber?

Crumb Rubber is recycled rubber from automotive and truck scrap tires that have reached their end of life and would otherwise wind up in landfills or be burned as fuel.  During the recycling process the components of a tire are mechanically separated.  The steel and fiber is removed and recycled and the remaining rubber is screened into different sizes and sold.

What is Crumb Rubber used for?

Crumb Rubber is extremely durable and resilient making it an excellent material for use in many products encountered in everyday life.  The same physical properties that enable tires to withstand the rigors or automotive drive transfer well for use in other industry's reliant upon similar physical demands of their products.

Crumb Rubber degrades over a very long period of time (lifetimes), can withstand extreme temperatures, has excellent insulating properties, can be used alone (engineering and landscape projects), can be molded into various products (mats, rolls, consumer and industrial goods), can substitute for virgin or synthetic rubber (shoes, tires, bubble gum), or makes a great asphalt modifier (roads, coatings, roofing materials).

As the cost of our natural resources has risen and the supply of these resources has either been dimenished through use or have been consumed by developing world economies, crumb rubber and other recycled post-consumer waste have become viable, attractive alternatives to manufacturing with purely virgin materials.
